So, you NEED A LITTLE HELP??

As a content creator, it can be exciting to flip a switch and all of a sudden, share your sewing room with the world - and (when you livestream) get real-time feedback! But, sometimes things don’t go as we expect.

While I can’t provide personal support, I wanted to answer some of the most common questions I’ve gotten in one place! Feel free to browse the issues below and see if the tips/tricks I have listed work for you.

Good luck!

  • Without knowing your specific setup, this can be difficult to fix…but, usually this is because of one of a few things:

    1. You have multiple audio sources open in your software.

    2. Your computer audio might be picked up on your microphone (either mute your computer sounds or - if you need to hear the computer and it’s being picked up on your mic, use headphones or earbuds.

  • In order to have smooth video, you’ll need a device that can handle receiving and broadcasting video, and a fast internet connection (like FiOS or Cable Internet). If your computer doesn’t give you the results you’d like, try going live from your phone and just using your computer to keep an eye on the chat.

  • Bots will only work when a livestream is active and is marked ‘public’. If your livestream is up, public and it’s still not working - check to make sure it’s on. (Sometimes, they don’t turn on automatically and you’ll have to flip the switch!)

    1. In YouTube Studio, open the scheduled livestream you want to use Zoom for.

    2. On the video, choose ‘View in Live Control Room’

    3. Under Stream Settings, you’ll need the stream Key and the Stream URL. You’ll also need the actual page for the livestream video (the one you’d share with people so they can watch).

    4. In Zoom, click More… and choose Live on Custom Live Streaming Service

    5. In the window that pops up, enter the Stream URL in the Streaming URL field, the Stream key in the Streaming key field, and the link you’d share for folks to watch the livestream in the Live streaming page URL

    6. Click Go Live!

  • The heart in the live chat area (that covers the last message or two) is so your viewers can send ‘reactions’…but I find it’s more of a headache. If you want to turn this off, follow these steps:

    1. In YouTube studio, open the livestream.

    2. Navigate to ‘Customization’

    3. Uncheck the ‘Live Reactions’ box under ‘Reactions’

    4. Click ‘Save’

This change can be made while a livestream is on - so feel free to turn it off during a live!

    1. In YouTube studio, open the livestream you’d like to change.

    2. Click ‘Monetization’

    3. Under ‘Live ad settings’ choose: ‘Choose how mid-rolls appear’, then choose ‘Insert mid-roll ads manually’

    1. In YouTube studio, select the livestream you’d like to modify.

    2. Click ‘Customization’

    3. Under ‘Participant modes’, click ‘Subscribers’, then choose a time the subscriber must have been subscribed for before they’re allowed to chat.

    4. Click ‘Save’

    1. In YouTube Studio, navigate to your Livestream

    2. Click ‘View in Live Control Room’

    3. On the ‘Stream Settings’ tab, towards the bottom - enabled the setting for ‘Closed Captions’

Note: this setting can be enabled before or during a livestream; however, viewers may need to refresh once it’s turned on.

    1. In YouTube Studio, navigate to ‘Customization’

    2. Scroll down to the ‘Featured Sections’ and click ‘+ ADD SECTION’

    3. In the popup, under Memberships select ‘Member Recognition’

    4. Click ‘Publish’

Note: you must have at least 8 active channel members in order to turn this on.

    1. In YouTube Studio, click ‘Customization’

    2. On the ‘Basic Info’ tab, scroll down to ‘Handle’ and enter the name you’d like to be your YouTube URL (for example, www.youtube.com/sewbecca) - include an @ in front of it.

    3. Click ‘Publish’
