What is English Paper Piecing?

English Paper Piecing, often called EPP, is a hand sewing technique where fabric is wrapped around paper shapes and then stitched together to create a design.

Think hexagons, diamonds, jewels, and all those beautiful little shapes that fit together like a puzzle.

Each piece is stitched by hand, which makes it wonderfully portable and perfect for slow, mindful sewing. You can work on it on the couch, in the carpool line, or at a retreat with friends.

The paper inside helps keep your shapes crisp and your points sharp. Once your pieces are sewn together, the papers are removed and you’re left with a flexible quilt top ready for the next step.

It’s simple. It’s relaxing. And once you get into the rhythm, it’s hard to stop.

If you’ve ever wanted a sewing project you can take anywhere, this is it.

What is a Studio Session?

Quilting isn’t just about fabric and thread, it’s about connecting with others. Every class I host is designed to bring quilters together, no matter where you live. I want you to leave with a finished project and new skills, but also with a sense of community, laughter, and that “I can do this” spark that keeps us all sewing.

This virtual class is my way of opening the sewing room doors wide! Whether you’re a seasoned quilter or just starting, you’ll feel welcome, supported, and inspired. We’ll learn, we’ll create, and we’ll share the joy of quilting together!

March’s Project

English Paper Piecing (EPP) is a slow, satisfying way to quilt by hand using small paper templates, fabric, and a needle. No machines. No rushing. Just tiny stitches, crisp shapes, and that deeply good feeling of watching order come together one piece at a time.

In this class, you’ll learn the basics of English Paper Piecing from the ground up. We’ll cover how to prepare your pieces, baste fabric to paper, stitch them together neatly, and actually enjoy the process instead of fighting it. If you’ve ever admired perfect hexies and thought that looks intimidating, this class is where that fear disappears.

This session will be hosted live via Zoom, so you can join from your own sewing space and ask questions along the way. Come ready to sew, learn, and spend time with a supportive community that loves quilting just as much as you do.

All skill levels are welcome. Grab your supplies, settle in, and let’s spend the afternoon stitching together something beautiful.
