What is Foundation Paper Piecing?

Foundation Paper Piecing, often called FPP, is a quilting technique that uses a printed paper pattern as a guide to sew fabric pieces together in a very specific order. Instead of lining up fabric edges first, you stitch directly on the printed lines of the pattern, which helps create sharp points, clean angles, and detailed designs.

This method is especially great for patterns with lots of angles, small pieces, or intricate shapes that can feel tricky with traditional piecing. The paper acts as a stabilizer while you sew, keeping everything in place and making accuracy much easier.

If FPP sounds intimidating, you are not alone. Once you understand the process, it becomes very methodical and even relaxing. It is all about taking things one step at a time. This technique is perfect for quilters who enjoy precision and want to try something new, and it works beautifully for both beginners and experienced quilters.

During the Studio Session, we will walk through the entire process together so you can feel confident and comfortable using FPP in your future projects.

What is a Studio Session?

Quilting isn’t just about fabric and thread, it’s about connecting with others. Every class I host is designed to bring quilters together, no matter where you live. I want you to leave with a finished project and new skills, but also with a sense of community, laughter, and that “I can do this” spark that keeps us all sewing.

This virtual class is my way of opening the sewing room doors wide! Whether you’re a seasoned quilter or just starting, you’ll feel welcome, supported, and inspired. We’ll learn, we’ll create, and we’ll share the joy of quilting together!
